Gallery: Ernestina of New Bedford Sailing Virtually in InWorldz Grid!

Snapshot_017

I’m really excited.  I don’t usually get excited often, but today I spent a little while tooling up and down the seaways of the virtual reality grid InWorldz with a model I built of the Ernestina, based on the one I built in years past. I’m very pleased to see the scripts provided by BWind and adaptation to the physics of InWorldz resulted in one of the most fantastic representations of sailing virtually that I have seen.  And I’ve been looking.  Thank you to the folks who are developing this like Tenbears Running of Scrimshaw Boatworks and all the folks who are using InWorldz the way I envisioned the metaverse would look like in these early days.

I have documented here on this site over the years my attempts at a mock up of virtual boating environment.  In the 1990’s I used laughably slow computers to make some rudimentary data-driven simulations.  Today I can clearly see a path towards making this simulated boating skills tool a reality.  Working with great folks like mentioned here, a life saving tool can be realized, giving form to this dream of mine.

Gallery: Foundation for Safe Boating T&T program photos

IMG_4797Over 30 Days at Sea. More than 25 Participants. The Foundation for Safe Boating and Marine Information has sponsored an on-the-water education program dedicated to introducing the residents of the local area to their marine environment. This year the topics included marlinspike seamanship skill building, navigation and chart plotting basics, and whale watching / marine biology basics during the 4-hour cruises aboard the Foundation’s vessels. On land, pre- and post- boating season, the mission continues with education for the public with respect to our local waters, being good samaritans and custodians to the coast.

Below are just some of the sights from the season of Teach and Take a Kid daysails. The boats used were Sonar 23′ keelboats, and a Hunter 31′ cruising sloop. For more information about the 2015 season plans and how you can get involved, visit the FSB Website.  Special thanks to those who support the programs and features of the Foundation.  Even more thanks to those participants who learned about the marine environment and continue to share the job of caretaker!

Gallery: Photo Tests, Character Calendar DRAFT

I am sleepy but this character set tests the poses and lighting options for characters, poses, outfits, and more.  The main character was the model for these pics, but the options are interchangeable to other as yet undeveloped character designs.  These are preliminary and have a long way to go before they are ready for publication or distribution!
